American Maltese Association Code of Ethics 
states that puppies should be:

bullet

Maltese should be at least 12 weeks or 3 months of age before being sold

bullet

Should have had a complete veterinary check-up

bullet

Should have had at least one vaccination against distemper, hepatitis and parvo

bullet

The breeder should provide written details on feeding, general care and nutrition and a health record with data on veterinary attention
